Help Paint Big Brutus!

Big Brutus is in need of painting. The last time Big Brutus was painted was in 1984 when the Pittsburg & Midway Coal Mining Company donated the 16-story shovel to Big Brutus, Inc.

Now almost 20 years later, in places the paint on the 16-story giant is chipping and peeling and the color has faded. We are planning to take bids and hoping that the cost will be less than the $250,000 estimate one firm quoted.

The Big Brutus Board of Directors has launched a campaign to paint the shovel. We need your help.

Painting will require 900 gallons of Omaha Orange and 300 gallons of black for the outside. The inside will require smaller amounts of Vista Green and White.

We appreciate all of the help we have received in the past and the donations that have already been received for this project. This is quite a large amount for a small non-profit organization dedicated to the mining heritage of Southeast Kansas to raise.
